I just acquired a ’67 Bandmaster, and that was the first thing I did to it. It is highly recommended (and does not affect the collectability of the amp) to get it converted to a 3 prong plug, and have the chassis grounded properly. However, if the cap of death goes bad and shorts, you now have a “hot” chassis and can get electrocuted if you touch it and something else that is not grounded properly. The idea is that if your amp was humming, switch to the other power line to stop the hum. Switching the “Ground” switch switches between which of the power lines the chassis is connected to. Since the amp was designed and built before power mains had a ground (three prong plugs), the chassis is connected, through a capacitor (called the cap of death), to one of the two power lines.

I could meet you up to 50 miles radius, but we'd have to work out how you could see it running. I would prefer not to ship it, so collection please in the first instance from Morecambe Lancashire. It works great, low noise floor, no undue noises or crackles and sounds strong and loud, just as it should do. The preamp valves are mixed, JJ, GT, Chinese and an old Servicemaster for the Phase inverter. It's on 110v, but will be supplied with a good quality step down transformer. The power valves are Groove Tubes, closely matched and biased at 32ma/33ma. The mains lead has been replaced with a grounded three prong, correctly wired. It has two changed pots and a few other caps, but they are good quality parts (Alpha pots, Jupiter caps). Fully serviced including all electrolytic capacitors replaced with F&T's and Spragues.

Very good condition, all original tolex, grill cloth, handle, corners, feet etc, and all the original transformers.
